3.4. - 4.4. Treze Tilias

After sleeping very well in our nice hotel room we had a great breakfast with a nice uva-jam (grapes), fig-jam some nice cakes and fresh juice. The background music was almost permanently jodeling! :) After breakfast we asked the owners, a nice couple from Salzburg and Tirol, where we could go. They recommended to walk to a chapel through the woods wich we did after visiting the very helpful and nice tourist info. On the way to the chapel we passed thermal springs with a lot of pools and waterslides. It looked really strange as there were no people but music was playing and everything seemed just to wait for the crowds which did not come. The trail through the woods was very nice but also muddy and slippery, now we knew why the woman at the tourist info warned us. On our way back we passed the old Tirol-Milch (milk) company headquarters and walked to the church. Everywhere are wood sculptures and carvings as there are many wood sculptors in Treze Tilias. The Couple owning the hotel we are staying in and their son are all in the business. We had lunch next to the hotel in a nice lanchonette with a good buffet for just 12 Real all you can eat. We also had a great acerola juice. After all the nice food we needed some rest in our nice room and then went to the rodoviaria to buy a ticket from Joacaba to Porto Alegre. After that we went to the nearby brewery called Bierbaum. we tried all the 5 drought beers including a ineapple flavoured one. All quite good! We met a guy whose family is from Feldbach there, who said that there also quite some Styrian people in the village. We went home and met one of the daughters of the hotel and talked to her for quite a while before going to bed. It is really funny to meet so many dialect speaking people in one village in the middle of Brazil! :)

Again we had a long breakfast and then talked to the owner of the hotel for quite a while, which was very interesting. He told us that it is really hard to get good tools or machinery here in Brazil. He proved this by showing us a really bad "Rechen" he had just bought the day before. He also told us how important it was that people come back here after going to Austria for some time, or that new people come in, as there really is a need for qualified people, e.g., for building roofs. No one here seems to be really capable he said. We went to the museum of Treze Tilias wich was interesting and had a lot of old photographs and other exhibits telling the story of the village. On the way to the Rodoviaria we went to a nice christ monument and then bought tickets for later to Joacaba. We then again had lunch in the same place and again needed some rest afterwards. We packed our things and went to get some money and water. After saying good bye to the hotel crew we had to wait quite a while for the bus which was again late. Down in Joacaba we had a dinner snack and then boarded the nicght bus to Porto Alegre. Behind us were 3 girls sitting who were chatting all the time with a really annoying loud voice. Radka tried to tell them to be quiet after some time but it did not work until they finally got off the bus at around midnight.
